(NaturalNews) Prolonged exposure to radiation from a mobile phone, even when not in use, can cause headaches and disrupt the body's ability to enter the deep sleep, according to a study conducted by Researchers at Wayne State University in the United States and the Karolinska Institutet in Sweden, and published in the reviewed by peers in the online journal Progress Electromagnetics Research Symposium.
The researchers conducted an experiment on 36 women and 35 men, 22 and 16, respectively, have already indicated their symptoms attributable to the use of mobile phones. The 33 other participants had not reported any symptoms.
All participants were selected with care by doctors to ensure they had no underlying medical condition that could interfere with the results. All were recruited specifically for this study.
During two different sessions, participants were exposed either real or sham radiation for three hours but were not informed that they had been exposed. The radiation was equivalent to that emitted by mobile phones, an average exposure of 1.4 watts per kilogram. It included a simulated phone in both use and inactive, but always under tension. The researchers collected data on participants before, during and after each exposure.
During the interrogation, after exposure or radiation, or the control group was able to guess which group they were any more accurate than by chance.
The participants took longer to reach stage 3 sleep when exposed to radiation when they are exposed to radiation sham and remained in step 4 of sleep for a shorter period. These stages of deep sleep are believed to play an important role in helping the body recover from everyday stress.
Participants who had not reported symptoms are also more likely to report the experience headaches, while being exposed to radiation that simulated radiation.
